Many scientists believe the later start to the snow season and the earlier spring melt are more than just the result of a short-term drought. They say the change is due to global warming. Tom Knudsen has a story on the theory in the Sacramento Bee.
Tahoe Adventure slide show series starts Jan. 7

The 8th annual Lake Tahoe Adventure Slide Show Series begins Jan. 7 at Squaw. Sponsored by the BackCountry outdoor geaer shop, the event is held every Wednsday night at Bar One, in the Olympic Plaza at Squaw Valley. The 2008/2009 season offers 10 shows put on by adventurers who have gone places and done things many of us only dream about.
The shows start at 7 pm and usually last one hour. There is comfortable seating for about 150, and pretty good standing room for another 100. Most shows fill the room completely by 7:10.
Northstar sponsors snowshoe race series

Northstar is sponsoring a snowshoe race series again this year. The first event is Dec. 20 and will be followed by races on Jan. 11 and Jan. 25. They are all open to the public. The events include a competitive 10k, a 5k walk/run and courses just for kids. Pre-registration is $60 for the series or $25 for one. Registration day of the race is $40. More info here.
