Squaw Valley is hosting a video terrain park competition.
Competitors are invited to film in Squaw’s park until the end of April, when they must submit an edit for judging. Winners will be chosen based on “editing, creativity, flow, energy and adherence to the rules,” according to the sponsors. A competition that’s judged on the strength of a video rather than one or two runs opens the door for some amazing tricks to be thrown because falling won’t be a factor.

Snow possible Thursday, Sunday

TUESDAY MARCH 31….6:11 am…March, a month that began with so much promise, is going to end rather quietly today for Tahoe, with yet another “insider slider” moving past us to the north and east, bringing a few clouds, some breezes and slightly cooler temps but no precip. Wednesday should be warmer before another storm slides by on Thursday, this one coming farther west as it drops down into the Great Basin from the Northwest. We’re actually seeing a chance of snow in the forecast for Thursday and Thursday night if this system pushes far enough west. Remember, with these storms, any activity we see is coming on their backside as they head south and east. The ridge of high pressure off the coast is still blocking any storms from taking the more direct, and more common approach to the Sierra over California.
Friday and Saturday look warmer under the influence of that high pressure ridge, but by Sunday, the pattern appears set to finally change. A low pressure system dropping down the coast has the potential to bring a winter-like storm to the Sierra and Tahoe. One forecast model has the storm splitting as it approaches, but still bringing some snow to the region by late Sunday. Another model has the low pressure system drifting off the coast until Monday or Tuesday and then turning east over Central and Southern California, with Tahoe getting less of a hit. Either way, however, it does appear that this pattern will be changing by the end of the week, with cooler temperatures and some precipitation likely in the days following.
But now that we are getting a taste of spring, do we really want to go back to winter?

Reno airport to get federal stimulus money

A couple of million bucks from that federal stimulus package is going to go toward improvements at the Reno airport. It won’t necessarily speed your next trip in and out of there, and in fact might delay it during construction, but it sounds like necessary upkeep of the place….
