Catalonian ultrarunner Kilian Jornet shattered the record for a continuous run on the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail — completing the circuit in 38 hours, 32 minutes. Video coverage of his quest is here. Bryon Powell — who was one of his pacers — provides some context and detail at irunfar.com ….A pretty amazing feat.

Gretchen says she might not have time for a full blown race report on her win at the Lake Tahoe Marathon, but she does a pretty nice job of hitting the highlights (and a few lows) in this quick summary.
Peter Lubbers, meanwhile, describes his running of the marathon as the third leg of his Tahoe Triple Marathon weekend, which is pretty amazing. His report is here.
And Turi’s race report is here.
It sounds like it was an awesome day — and weekend — all around. Let us know if you have a race report, or have seen one, that we should add to the list.
Cool today, then warmer before next system on Saturday

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 30 5:15 AM…The cold low pressure system that brought an end to our extended summer Monday and Tuesday has moved into the Great Basin, leaving chilly temperatures behind it. Today should be the coldest day of the week, with highs struggling to reach the 50s around the lake and staying in the 40s near the mountain passes. We’re expecting a warming trend the rest of the work week, with temperatures returning to just below normal by Thursday and Friday.
But a stronger and colder low-pressure system is gathering momentum in the Pacific Northwest and is headed our way for the weekend. Tahoe will start to feel the effects of this change on Saturday as winds kick up ahead of the low, although conditions are not expected to be as windy as they were earlier this week. The front is currently on a track to move through the Sierra late Saturday or early Sunday. A band of precipitation will follow it through, and snow levels should drop to below 5,000 feet Saturday night as temperatures plummet. Still too early for any projections on the amount of rain or snow to expect, but it looks to be on the modest side. The total moisture will depend on the final track of the storm. At the moment it looks as if it will come south over land, which would mean a drier system. But if it hangs off the coast for longer instead, it would pick up moisture and drop that over the Sierra. Stay tuned.
