Saturday and Sunday should be beautiful

SATURDAY JULY 31 6:30 AM….Very little change in Tahoe’s weather through Monday. Expect clear skies, seasonably warm temperatures near 80 around the lake, in the 60s at the mountain passes. Afternoon winds should be the only unpleasant element in the weather picture, and those should be lighter Sunday than Saturday. A wind advisory is in effect for Saturday, however, with gusts over 30 mph on the Lake.
A trough of low pressure off the Pacific Coast is setting Tahoe up for a dry, southwest flow aloft, which is responsible for these near perfect summer days.
Enjoy!

Another gorgeous weekend ahead

THURSDAY JULY 29 5:30 AM….Tahoe’s stretch of mild mid-summer weather looks to continue straight into the weekend.
The region is still squeezed between a Pacific trough and a ridge of high pressure over the desert southwest. In the middle, we’re neither too hot nor too cold, with a dry southwest flow aloft that has pushed the threat of thunderstorms out of the area. It does not get much better than this.
Energy from the Pacific trough looks to be moving east Friday or Saturday, likely pushing down temperatures a degree or two at the higher elevations. We should also see some gusty winds along the Sierra front and the eastern slope, especially in the afternoon. Other than that, conditions should be fairly calm and quiet through Sunday.
Stay tuned for updates as conditions change.

Mild temps, no t-storms: what’s not to like?

WEDNESDAY JULY 28 5:04 AM….Tahoe is in for some fairly tranquil weather over the next several days.
The region remains sandwiched between two competing influences, a ridge of high pressure over the desert southwest and a trough of low pressure off the west coast.
Normally the high pressure would bring on a heat wave. But this time it is in a standoff with energy coming from the Pacific by way of the trough of low pressure stationed to our west. The result is mild temperatures and a fairly dry flow of air from the southwest. Other than some afternoon winds on the eastern slope and a slight chance of thunderstorms south of Tahoe, everything looks pretty quiet.
Conditions are likely to remain this way for some time. The Pacific trough does not appear to be moving, and it will continue to send energy our way. If anything, we might see a cooling trend as some forecast models show the high pressure breaking down and moving east during the weekend. That would open the door wide for even more cool air from the west.
But for now the standoff continues and Tahoe is the beneficiary.
Enjoy.
